WOW. When I first started this free promotion with Amazon, I was shooting for 25,000 downloads because that what another self-published author I’d read about had managed. But now we’re at over 53,000 downloads and there are still several hours to go! THANK YOU everyone for spreading the word and for giving this unknown author a chance. I love seeing how many readers are coming from...
First: You guys are amazing!!! Through the Door is currently the #1 (free) fantasy book on Amazon and #2 in the entire Kindle Store! Thanks so much for spreading the word. It’s still free until midnight on Tuesday, July 31 so if you haven’t told your friends yet, there’s still time! And I’m loving all the new reviews. You guys are the best!

I first posted this article last year on my brother’s birthday, but wanted to share it again.
Today is my brother’s birthday. I called him, something I don’t do very often. Twice a year, maybe? Christmas and birthdays. Hey, bro.
As always, I felt a wave of sadness pass through me when I hung up the phone, plus a mixture of “I should do that more often” and “It...
I love our little community of Sullivan/Panorama. It has the best of both worlds – it’s not downtown Vancouver, which means we can afford to live here! But it’s also within easy walking distance to tons of shops, restaurants, the YMCA, and three great parks (which helps when the yards are the size of postage stamps).

Today’s Q&A from the book giveaway contest are all about the visual aspects of the book – the gorgeous cover and the soon-to-be-released video trailer. Thanks to everyone who entered the giveaway contest! Fiona was the lucky winner, and now I have plenty of great suggestions for blog posts. I’ll be answering them over the next few days so stay tuned, and check back to see the answer to your question. And if these answers spark any more questions, feel free to ask them in the comments! But try to avoid spoilers if you’ve read the books!...
I don’t know about you guys, but I am getting bored waiting for the print version of THROUGH THE DOOR to be up and ready to roll! So I’m going to entertain myself by giving away a signed advance/proof copy. Here’s what you have to do:
1. Leave a comment on this blog post with a question for me about the novel, the writing process, publishing or anything else...
I really need to stop reading George R. R. Martin’s epic fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire (often referred to as Game of Thrones after the HBO series based on the novels). Not because of the gratuitous sex, the stomach-turning violence, or the fact that my favourite characters keep dying – I’m quite fine with all that. The problem is that the whole series is so damn addictive...
