I don’t know about you guys, but I am getting bored waiting for the print version of THROUGH THE DOOR to be up and ready to roll! So I’m going to entertain myself by giving away a signed advance/proof copy. Here’s what you have to do:
1. Leave a comment
on this blog post with a question for me about the novel, the writing process, publishing or anything else that piques your curiosity. I’ll answer your questions in a future blog post.
2. Don’t forget to include your email address so I can contact you if you’re the winner!
3. Want more than one chance to win? Post the following update (or something similar) to Twitter and/or Facebook
including the link, then comment
on this blog post again to let me know you’ve done it (each comment counts as one entry).
“I just entered to win an advance copy of THROUGH THE DOOR by @jodimcisaac. Go here to enter! http://ow.ly/bGCCI”
That’s it! Anyone from anywhere can enter (yes, that means even you, my Australian and Kiwi friends!) I’ll pick the winner tomorrow, so get your entries in and spread the word!
Dear Jodi,
Do you ever find your characters rebelling against you? I’ve heard about writers talking about their characters taking on a life of their own and starting to behave in ways that surprise or perplex the writer. Have you ever experienced that?
~Vanessa
P.S. This input text is so light I can barely read it – I must be getting old eh?
I’m interested in finding out about the book covers. Who designs them and how much input do you have into the design and final say?
penumbrareads(at)gmail(dot)com
Now that you have written an entire work, how is your reading changed by the experience?
Are you already working on your next book?
The color work on this one looks fantastic!
I tweeted about the giveaway here too,

Hi! I just discovered your novel, and am a big fan already! I can’t wait for the next one! I am curious how much research went into the celtic myths and language.
Also, where can we view the trailer?!
Best,
Ashlie
Hi Ashlie! Re: the trailer, we are still working on final edits and it should be released next week along with the print version of the book. It will be here on this website as well as YouTube and Vimeo.
Hi Jodi! Have you ever started writing about a character, and found that through your writing, their personality changed, and it somehow was better than you imagined?
Thanks for another great giveaway!
Hi Jodi. I am so curious about the fact that you have a trailer out for your book. How did that idea come about and what is the effect of it?
(choose me!!)
How did you come up with the idea for the artwork?

Who ( if any other ) writers have influenced your writing?
Hi Jodi,
Did the story come from an pre-existing interest in Celtic lore, or did you need to do a lot of research to fit that history into your novel?
Also, whoever came up with the visual components of the website (actors portraying the main characters) is brilliant! I thought it might impact my ‘internal’ movie that plays when I read a book, but it really enhanced it instead.
Looking forward to more of your work!
Chantal
hey Jodi,
When starting a novel, do you start with a) characters?, b) plot?, c) idea?, or d) world? And do you know your ending before you start?
Hi There Jodi,
How to maintain your focus on a writing project? Do you work in small bursts or long streches and how to deal with self doubt?
Hi Jodi!
I really enjoyed reading the book, and i was wondering how you managed to find the people in your trailer to look EXACTLY how they are described in the book – because that would be a super long process!! – or did you pic the visual aspects of the characters becuase of these people?
I shared your facebook page announcing a chance to win on my timeline!
Through the door is a well written tale weaving magic, folklore, and family! can’t wait to read the next in the series
How long did it take you to find your characters, as opposed to characters who could never be fleshed out?
I tweeted – http://twitter.com/jamiainc/statuses/215236491000029185
I think somebody already asked this, but I really want to know how did you come out with this lovely cover?? Did you have an opinion? or just let somebody else come out with the idea??
Kisses
Ruty
What was your inspiration for the book?
Hey Jodi!
I’m curious… Which character in your book is your favorite and why?
Your fan,
Andrea
Thank you for writing such an amazingly rich story. I read it in a day, something I’ve never done before. Who has the time these days?
I was wondering what your favorite scene in the book is, and whether or not it was your favorite part to write.
Also when did you decide to write this book, and how different is it now from your original concept?
As a writer, what part of the writing process was the most frusterating for you? I’ve heard many authors say that finishing a book(especially the first) can be challenging. Personally, I’ve always struggled with finishing things. I’m just so terribly neurotic(original, aren’t I? because the world totally doesn’t have enough neurotic writers) that my mind will go so quickly from idea to idea. Staying with one project for an extended period of time can be very challenging for me. Did you run into this problem as well?
Jodi – I just broadcasted it to my Facebook world. Hope it’s enough to make me a winner! *Crossing fingers*
I would firstly like to thank you for holding a giveaway of your increadible novel, which i have added to my to-read list & would love to have the oportunity of reading and revewing something so origional and new.
As an amateur writer myself currently on my first novel, i would like to ask you about publishing and if you were aided by an editor or agent as to getting your book into print. I have herd that it is hardest when you are ‘new’ to the publishing world and have not got other works out there, hence i would love to know your own thoughts as someone who has been so fortunate as to now have your novel in print.
Thank you so much once again & i look forward to reading your book with much interest.

Hi Jodi – has the process of writing a book and having it published been all you hoped it would be?
Hi,
thank you so much for your book, it looks awesome and the story sounds really good
Do you believe in celtics myth, or anything to do with myths, magic, paranormal? If so did you had an experience that takes part in the book too?
Aliraluna
I have only read the first chapter so far and cannot wait to read the rest. Did you pick the story or did it pick you? I am always curious as to where inspiration strikes. (Visions of driving along the highway and swerving through traffic to a wooded area to write down that little whisper or roar in your head)
What or who inspired you to become a writer & where /what or who did you get the idea for this book?
would you ever consider turning this novel into a tv series or movie if you had the chance?
I’ve posted your giveaway on my twitter. I would so love to review this for my channel on youtube. cheers
Thanks to everyone who entered. We have our winner – Fiona! The book will be winging its way to her soon, and I’ll get cracking on answering all of your questions!
Wow, I’m having trouble reading this, so I hope there are no mostakes. I’m wondering what prompted you to write about Celtic Lore, and how did you develop this particular story?
I’m almost embarassed to say that this is the first I’ve heard of you….I am an avid reader and somehow our paths have not crossed until now…my question would be…..what was your process for getting signed with a publishing company?
posted on twitter too

Do you set writing goals for yourself? such as so many words per day.
Hi Jodi: I would sure like to receive an advanced signed copy of the Through the Door. I have been reading the write ups on it and it sounds like an amazing book.

Maureen
Hi Jodi: Maureen here again. What really attracted me to the book was the cover. I find that I’m a very visual person and the cover really attracted me to it. I sure that the contents are just as intreging.

Maureen
Hey! Thought you were choosing on the 13th?
braedynoelle@gmail.com
does more then one comment disqualify? \hope not!
I love you and your awesome.
Your description of yourself “I write stories, I raise children, and I drink whiskey” reminds me of myself!
I love you.
The contest on the Not Quite South Surrey blog closes on July 13 – this one closed June 20. The winning book has already been given away!
Hi Jodi. Are there other author whos works have inspired you to write this book? I’ve read the works of Diana Gabaldon and was wondering if you got your inpriation from reading books like hers?
Where do you formulate the stories? Is there a special place or time or are they always swirling around?
First off, love your book, so creative. But here are my questions; first, when does the 2nd book come out and 2nd, how do you keep all the details straight? Do you make a flow chart or character/location board?
I truly enjoyed the enchantment in the book. I could not put it down, so once I finished it I finally got a good nights sleep. Loved the characters and mystery and twists and turns. A True Page Turner.
